Coinbase acquires YC-backed collaborative bookmarking startup Kippt ‘to make Bitcoin easy to use’

Bitcoin exchange Coinbase announced today that it has acquired the team behind social bookmarking service Kippt and Inc, its business messaging product. Coinbase and Kippt were both part of the same Y Combinator class in 2012.

Kippt, however, failed to reach the scale it needed for sustainability, so its founders Jori Lallo and Karri Saarinen have decided to throw their weight behind Coinbase to help make Bitcoin “easy to use” for consumers, merchants and developers.

For now, Kippt plans to keep both services running, though it will discontinue its premium plans. Lallo and Saarinen will operate Inc as a “side project.”
