Music streaming service Rdio is breaking up with The Echo Nest after Spotify acquired it

rdio-iconMusic streaming service Spotify announced last week that it had acquired music data platform The Echo Nest, and now competitor Rdio wants to end its partnership with the platform because it doesn’t want to share its data with rivals, CNBC reports.

In an interview with CNBC, Rdio CEO Anthony Bay says: “As far as we are concerned, they were a good partner, but we have other good partners and we’ll move on… We, probably like most people, have multiple sources of data that we use. So we will stop using that source of data and use other sources.”

Spotify has said it will use The Echo Nest to continue on its path of growing global music consumption and bringing revenue back to the music industry “by building the best user experience and music discovery engine for millions of global fans.” Spotify will also look to leverage The Echo Nest’s musical understanding and tools for curation, as it seeks to help brands and partners build better music experiences for their audiences.
