The rumors were doing the rounds earlier this week, but Intel has confirmed that it has inked a deal with FC Barcelona that will lead to a series of joint initiatives between the two brands.
The US-based semiconductor chip manufacturer says this isn’t just a sponsorship deal, and it has big plans for the footballing giant.
“This is more than a sponsorship to Intel,” says Deborah Conrad, Intel’s Chief Marketing Officer. “The technology we are deploying and the programs we are working on together are designed to elevate FC Barcelona into one of the most technologically advanced soccer clubs in the world, and to launch an ambitious slate of educational initiatives.”
Part of the deal will see the Intel logo appear on the inside of the players’ jerseys – apparently the first time a logo has ever been placed there. Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol paraded the new jerseys at an event in Barcelona earlier today, and it will be worn for the first time in a match against Villareal on December 14.

The deal will see Intel provide the latest technology to students at the La Masia academy, which is used to train its youth players.
Moreover, Barcelona players and coaches will receive the latest Intel-based ‘2-in-1’ devices, and will actively work with the club on technology-centric research, training and performance, while new technology will also be developed for fans visiting its Nou Camp stadium.
