Sound investment: WillCall welcomes Sean Parker and other music-industry moguls in $1.2m funding round

WillCall, the mobile app that makes it easy to find tickets to live shows at the last minute, has raised a $1.2m round from a number of notable investors.

The primary goal of this round, it seems, was to bring people in with “significant music industry roots”, though a number of previous investors from other realms have also increased their stake.

Napster creator and Spotify board member Sean Parker joins music management powerhouse Coran Capshaw, founder of Red Light Management and ATO Records, as well as entertainment attorney John Frankenheimer as the new entrants.

Others to participate in the round include Joe Gebbia, co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Airbnb; Oliver Luckett, founder and CEO of theAudience; European angel Oliver Jung; A&R and music management force Bruce Flohr; and San Francisco-based SV Angel.

For the uninitiated, WillCall selects events in key locations then works with the various parties to arrange tickets or special packages.

Users then receive a push notification directly to their smartphone and they can book directly through the app. As of a recent update, users can tip bands and buy merchandize through the app too. It’s currently only open in San Francisco and New York, but Los Angeles is coming shortly.

Today’s announcement brings WillCall’s total funding to date to $2.1 million.
