There are clear signs that the market for geolocation services is heating up, what with Apple acquiring WifiSLAM and Facebook reportedly building an app to track the location of users and whatnot.

Add another one to the fray: NASDAQ-listed provider of infrastructure software for enterprises TIBCO today announced that it has acquired Maporama, a privately-held provider of cloud-based location intelligence and geospatial analytics solutions.

Maporama essentially allows companies to shorten decision-making cycles, optimize resource allocation and match supply with demand within the context of location.

The company says it has been in the geolocation business for 12 years, which means they likely bring a lot of expertise and valuable intellectual property to the table.

Lars Bauerle, VP of Product Strategy for TIBCO’s Spotfire service, says:

“By combining Maporama’s digital mapping and geospatial capabilities with Spotfire’s market-leading analytics and data discovery platform, we will increase the value we provide to our customers, enabling them to solve new location-based business problems and make more informed decisions.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
