Earlier this year it emerged that YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen were acquiring social bookmarking service Delicious from Yahoo.
Now job listings have appeared on Hurley and Chen’s AVOS company website, listing three development positions, a community manager and a general counsel to cover legal matters related to the company.
From recruitment information we’ve been passed separately, it appears that Avos is planning to relaunch Delicious this fall. Although, the job listings don’t tell us much about what the new version of the service will be like, a key part of the web developer role will be to “Design and develop highly intuitive interface components that provide a high degree of utility without sacrificing simplicity”, another vacancy is for someone to develop new browser extensions, while an Application Developer will be working on web app components for the new service.
While it still isn’t clear exactly what form the new Delicious will take, fans of the service certainly have something to look forward to later this year. That said, many of them will already have moved on to rival services due either to earlier reports that Yahoo was to close it, or the fact that Yahoo had let it wither, undeveloped for some time.

Which bookmarking service do you use?

Bookmarking 3.0??
Number 1 priority should be sorting out the spam. Heres hoping they restore delicious to its former glory.

The first thing they need to sort out is compatibility with the newest iteration of Mozilla Firefox. It’s not there out the box and I know there are tweaks and workarounds, but it’s not ‘simple’.
On the strength of Delicious’ all-round awesomeness I retrograded to 3.6.1. It meant I couldn’t use the Buffer application for Twitter scheduling but I genuinely would find it very hard indeed to work without Delicious. XMarks, for me, doesn’t come close.

Let’s hope the Firefox extension returns to its former glory. Diigo still hasn’t come close to making bookmarks easy to find after they’ve been bookmarked. Some added utility of making bookmarks more searchable on the Delicious site itself would also be an improvement.
