Google Classroom releases Chrome extension to help teachers push links to students

Google has already made some key changes to its Classroom product in advance of the new school year, but the company announced today at its San Francisco office that teachers will be able to take advantage of a new feature to help them get material to their students in a fraction of the time.

Called “Share to Classroom,” teachers can download and implement the Chrome extension to quickly push links to student computers that are in that class. Teachers simply click the extension, and the URL of the current tab will automatically be pulled in.

Then, teachers can click which classroom to push the link to, and the tab will pop up in those students’ Chrome browsers.

Students can share back links related to the subject, to help further participation. But teachers will be able to see who shares each link, meaning total transparency and accountability to prevent high school trolls from abusing the technology.

According to numbers provided by Zach Yeskel, Product Manager, Google for Education, 40 million students and teachers are actively using Google for Classroom to complement their curriculum. The product recently closed a partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools located in Fairfax, Virginia — the tenth largest school district in the United States.

Share to Classroom is available today — just in time for the new school year.
