Google loses bid to stop UK consumers from suing over alleged privacy violations

Google loses bid to stop UK consumers from suing over alleged privacy violations

UK consumers will continue to have the right to potentially bring legal action against Google for an alleged misuse of privacy settings by the search giant, according to the BBC.

The judgement was sent down the Court of Appeal today and leaves the company open to potential litigation in the future. It was brought in reference to the filing of a suit last year that alleges clandestine monitoring of Safari users within the UK.

The case alleges that Google placed tracking cookies on computers to gather information without first getting consent or informing the users. It attempted to block the case brought against it on the grounds that the people involved hadn’t financially lost out as a result of the alleged actions.

We’ve contacted Google and will update if we hear back.
