Motorola confirms it will announce the customizable Moto X in New York on August 1st

Motorola is sending out invitations to members of the media to attend an event where they’ll be unveiling the Moto X smartphone. The event will be held in New York City on August 1.

The phone, rumored to be called the X Phone, was first introduced during a talk at the All Things D conference featuring Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside and Regina Dugan. Prior to today, there have been a few leaks about the news going out about the new phone, including that it’s the first phone produced by Motorola since it was acquired by Google. Additionally, Woodside said that the device would be assembled in the United States at a plant in Texas.

Motorola claims that the Moto X would be the device that users could “tweak themselves”. What specifically could be customized remains a bit of a mystery, but it could be the color of the device (multiple selections, perhaps?), or anything else?

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Moto X will be available on all the major carriers in the US, including Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint.

Earlier this month, PhoneArena found an alleged roadmap that hinted that the smartphone would launch on August 23. While signs seem to point to that timeframe, it’s still not certain. The only thing that can be 100 percent believed is Woodside saying that the Moto X would be out before October.

Motorola has set up a special page for the Moto X smartphone whereby consumers can sign up to receive updates and maybe even purchase the device right from the website or Google Play store.
