Google launches pre-orders for Books on Google Play store

Google launches pre-orders for Books on Google Play store

Google is now accepting pre-orders for books on its store. The pre-order addition was first exposed in an APK teardown of the new Play store by Androidpolice and they’ve since gone live. The pre-order procedure now has its own help page here, which details ordering, cancellation and more.

There are already titles in the store that have the new pre-order button, rather than the standard ‘buy’ option. The Death of Bees, for instance, is due out on Google Play in January of 2013.

As with standard pre-order procedures, you’re only charged when the book is actually available. The addition of pre-orders is the second addition to the store today, as it now connects Google+ IDs with public reviews, which will feature your name and image. This should help to cut down on the amount of spammy and outrageous reviews.

The Google Play store joins the iBookstore and Amazon’s Kindle store in offering pre-orders. Both of those competitors have been doing it for some time.
