Open-source social gaming platform OpenKit officially launches to succeed OpenFeint

OpenKit has officially launched its open-source platform for mobile social gaming, making it available to all developers.

Co-created by Peter Relan, who also created the OpenFeint service that was purchased by GREE and shut down last year, OpenKit was announced last December. In March, OpenKit released version 1.0 in a private beta.

OpenKit bills itself as the only platform that supports “Game Center IDs, Google+ IDs and Facebook IDs”. Features on the service include leaderboards, challenges and achievements. The platform is launching first with 10 developers from its beta, including the maker of the popular Pivvot game.
