Facebook is making good on its promise to make Messenger a whole lot more useful with its first airline integration, allowing KLM passengers to access a range of functionality without ever leaving the chat app.
From today, you can access boarding passes, get check-in reminders, flight status updates and ask customer service queries right from within Messenger – it is a gradual rollout though, so it might not be available for you right now.
To set yourself up for the service, you just need to access your booking or check-in on KLM.com in a browser that you’ve used to log into Messenger recently – anytime in the last 90 days will work fine.
Naturally, if you’ve set your browser not to accept cookies, then you’ll need to change that setting first.
While right now the KLM-only integration will limit its appeal, it’s a sign of Facebook’s ambitions to put Messenger at the heart of both physical and digital products.
And for a company with a reach the size of Facebook’s, that’s certainly an interesting (or scary) proposition if it can pull it off.
