Facebook acquires social sports data startup SportStream as it courts content producers

Facebook has announced the acquisition of SportStream, a startup focused on tracking and surfacing sports-related social content, news and statistics, as noted by AllThingsD.

Justin Osofsky, Facebook’s VP of Media Partnerships & Global Operations, explained that the deal should help the firm “meaningfully improve the ability for all of our partners to access and utilize the insights from Facebook’s tools and APIs.”

Sportstream said it plans to continue working with its existing partners and will scale up its product to add on more partners after heading to Facebook.
