Facebook Home for Android with Pinterest, Flickr, Tumblr, and Instagram integration is now available to all

Facebook Home for Android with Pinterest, Flickr, Tumblr, and Instagram integration is now available to all

Facebook today updated its Android app with Pinterest, Flickr, Tumblr, and Instagram lock screen integration in Home. The new version is now available on Google Play; you’ll have to update both Facebook for Android as well as Facebook Home for Android to get the new functionality.

The app lock screen integration first arrived earlier this month. The addition was only available to users enrolled in the Facebook for Android beta program, however, and only now is it out for all Android users.

In case you need a refresher on how this looks, here’s a YouTube video:

Once you have the new version of Facebook for Android, head to the Facebook Home settings menu and select which apps you wish to pull content from. After authenticating the respective accounts, posts from Pinterest, Flickr, Tumblr, and Instagram will start being pulled in. Like with other Home screen content, you can Like and view posts without opening any apps.

Here’s the full Facebook Home version 1.1 changelog:

  • Use the Home app just as your lock screen or as your lock screen and app launcher.
  • Updated app launcher.
  • See photos and posts from Flickr, Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr on your lock screen.

Facebook Home has not taken off like the company likely expected when it debuted the Android launcher back in April. At the time, Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg note that its goal was to focus on people instead of apps, and ironically it is app integration that now might bolster Facebook’s latest offering.

Facebook saw Home’s download numbers jump to 1 million in the first month after its release. After poor reviews, however, features like chat heads started being integrated into the social network’s main app.
