Vote on your favorite “green” apps for NYC’s Reinvent Green hackathon

Reinvent Green, the hackathon spearheaded by NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg, came and went this past weekend, but voting for the people’s choice award is open and happening here. We first covered the event back in April, and now its time to pick from the top five apps for the popular choice award.

Check out the choices below, ordered by their current number of votes, and then head on over to NYC’s Facebook page to vote!

1. Best App for Recycling: GreenCan

Use a GreenCan not a Trash Can. GreenCan will let users locate their nearest public recycling trash can, provide information for recycling organics and electronics and provide valuable feedback back to NYC for future recycling can placement. 2. Best App for Transportation: Bike Pooling

Think of car pooling but for bikes. Find people who commute on the same path as you and start riding with them every mornings/evenings. 4. Best App for City Crowdsourcing: ReBounty

One person’s trash is another’s treasure. ReBounty is an easy way to find and list curb alerts in an effort to reduce the amount of unwanted waste that is thrown out in urban areas every year. You can submit bounty by email, through the web, or through the iPhone app. You can also set up alerts to be notified when items you are looking for are posted near you. 5. Judges Pick: Green, Greener, Greenest!

Competition between each neighborhood as to who is the greenest! A filterable league table of green data, showing what each neighborhood is strong at in terms of oil & energy consumption, trees planted, and many other metrics that can be added. Shows what the neighborhood should do to beat the one above it in the league table! Creators: Anton Granik and Matthew Ruttley
