It’s hard to call them startups anymore: Companies like Gilt Groupe and Etsy have proved their potential to attract mass markets, and have paved the way through New York City for thriving startups like Meetup, Kickstarter and Foursquare.
These are startups that have enabled and inspired connections within the New York tech community, spawning opportunities for entrepreneurs, engineers and tech enthusiasts to create and grow the city’s digital ecosystem. From these opportunities and connections, we’ve seen early stage startups successfully take flight like Shelby.tv, Adaptly and Percolate. And there’s more to launch very soon (Cameo, anyone?). To celebrate, The New York Tech Meetup (NYTM), New York’s largest technology Meetup is throwing a party in Austin next weekend at SXSW.
So. Much. Tech.
Some of the biggest names in tech are coming to TNW Conference in Amsterdam this May.
We’re proud to be media sponsors of Made in NY: Austin, an event co-presented by Gust with over 30 NY tech companies providing attendees with opportunities to do everything from pitching angel investors to having drinks with leaders of some of New York’s best-known startups to other sordid acts of digital debauchery.
The event will take place on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Fast Company Grill at Cedar Door in Austin, Texas, during SXSW. RSVP here.
Jessica Lawrence*, Managing Director of NY Tech Meetup said: “In 2011, NY Tech Meetup launched the Made in NY program celebrating technology startups being built in New York City. The growing list now includes over 250 startups, and the Made in NY: Austin event at SXSW provides an exciting opportunity to showcase the outstanding technology that is being built in New York.” Lawrence is responsible for the Made in NY site, a list of startups cooked in the Big Apple (pie).
Additional key sponsors of the event include Gold Sponsors Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Buddy Media, and Silver Sponsors DFJ Gotham, Etsy, Shapeways, and RAPP. Sonar is providing the social connection platform for the event.
*Full disclosure: Jessica Lawrence is my roommate in Austin, TX for SXSW and I’m very much looking forward to this.
