NY Tech Day will be like a science fair for startups this April

NY Tech Day will be like a science fair for startups this April

NY’s tech scene has grown significantly over the past few years. The cause for the recent and rapid growth is due to numerous factors, including the success of early New York startups and media and ad agency ties.

Lately though, much of New York’s best bets for success involve the growth and camaraderie of the overall community as well as future investments like Cornell’s Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island and legislative support from the likes of NY Mayor, Mike Bloomberg.

Though there is a flurry of emerging events and meetups surrounding the city’s tech boom, NY Tech Day is an exciting shift in focus, as it focuses just as much on startups as it does showcasing them to the actual world. Here’s more details from the announcement piece on DNAinfo:

The day-long event, which is free and open to the public, is designed as a science fair for the startup set, Petersen said. New tech companies that purchase a booth at the event for $385 can demo their products or services before a crowd of journalists, investors and potential employees looking for internships or jobs.

In the evening, an award ceremony will honor startups that excel in certain categories, such as best mobile app or best user interface.

Co-founder John Petersen believes NY Tech Day is something that the entire startup community can “greatly benefit from, [which allowed him to] put things in perspective when [he was] building it.” Clearly, launching and gaining traction as a startup is no easy tast, and this event is hoping to simplify part of the process.

According to Petersen, the event is expecting around 200 startups to attend, all of which vary greatly in size and experience. NY Tech Day will be held in NYC on April 19th, and is free to attend, but space is limited! TNW will be keeping a close eye on it, just as we are with Photo Hack Day 2, at General Assembly.
