We brought you news of Foursquare‘s imminent release in London earlier this week. Today, the app is now live!
Foursquare is a location-based social network wrapped in social gaming paper. The mobile application lets you play by “checking in” at various locations when you’re out and about, and in doing so turns the mobile app into a city guide, loyalty store card and social connector.
Until now, Foursquare only been available in the US and Amsterdam but now London gets it turn.
Grab the iPhone app: here and if want me, I’m here. If you’re wondering how to get a personalised URL, you have to sync with Twitter.

I had played with 4 square for a while, but foudn that unless I lived in one of the major metropolitan areas, it wasn’t really that exciting. That was before I discovered Gowalla. A similar service, but encorporates a scavenger hunt type aspect to it where you can drop items at locations for others to find and swap with their own items. Anyhow, 4 Square would have been a blast if I was still living in NYC, but I’m not. Gowalla is something for the rest of us.

Great tips Alex, for heavy and non heavy users you are on the spot.
I think it is very important to know how to use Foursquare. It is a pity Foursquare doesn’t teach you how to use it. I totally see the value of only following a bunch of people, only your real friends and party peeps.

Indeed, feels like a letdown not to have more European cities – I wonder how they made that decision since the twitter usage stats would have shown a couple more European cities worth adding at a low cost before local clones start appearing.

I could not have said it better myself.

I’ve been using Foursquare for quite awhile, as I spend most of my time in major cities. I think this is a brilliant location aware ad-platform. Looking forward to more expansion!
