BirdFlight: A free Web-based beta testing platform for iOS and Android apps

Mobile app and testing company TestBirds is launching a new free platform today called BirdFlight which allows users to upload and distribute iOS and Android apps to their own testers.

The new service adds a free tier to the company’s existing business model of paid-for managed services and testing apps using its own in-house testers. Naturally, BirdFlight expects that developers with more elaborate testing needs or those that want access to TestBird’s crowd of testers might then upgrade to one of the other chargeable tiers.

However, for free, users can upload their apps, create teams and invite their own testers to try them out and then distribute the beta apps at no cost. There are also new features on the horizon too, like an SDK for crash reports and other analytics for both iOS and Android.

The timing of the launch of this new feature is no coincidence. Since Apple acquired Burstly and subsequently dropped support for Android apps on the TestFlight platform, rivals like TestFairy and Ubertesters have also been keen to launch their own multi-platform offerings to fill the void.

TestBird’s product news comes accompanied by a fresh €2.1 million investment led by Seventure Partners. The company said the cash will be used to extend its business further into Europe and to continue to expand its product offering.
