There’s good news for startups and businesses in Australia after payment provider Stripe launched its service in private beta in the country, marking its first move into the Asia-Pacific region.

Stripe’s launch comes after rival Braintree opened an office in Sydney in June, some seven months after first launching its service in Australia. Both Stripe and Braintree compete with the likes of PayPal to provide an easier way to handle online payments.
Stripe, which is worth around $500 million, has been expanding its international presence in recent months. It stepped into the UK in March, and has since expanded into Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Ireland. The US-based service is also available in Canada.
