Last Friday Valve started a rumor that Steam would be coming to Mac by sending out art work with their popular video game characters mashed up with Apple iPhone and Mac ads. Six different images were sent separately to Mac Rumors, Mac NN, Shacknews, Eurogamer, Rock, Paper, Shotgun, and Macworld as part of Valve’s viral marketing campaign.
The news went official today, Steam will be coming to OSX in April.
Steam for Mac will launch with a number of Valve titles, including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series. The system will include all the features found on the PC as well as a new Steam Play option. Steam Play allows users who already downloaded PC versions of games to download them to Mac at no additional charge.
This is big news for Mac owners, who typically are left out in the cold when it comes to games compared to their PC counterparts.
I wonder if Valve’s new partnership with Apple, could also extend to a certain iPad device also coincidentally coming out in April? Valve has not yet released any games for the iPhone/iPod Touch, but with the larger screen, higher resolution, and faster processor of the iPad maybe that will change.

This is amazing and shows that the Mac plattform becomes more and more important for big guys. We also love to dev. games for the iPhone (at the moment we developed our own gaming SDK) but it would be also great to start a game for Mac Desktops. But well first lets see how Valve does there job ;)
