Postmates comes to the rescue as Uber kills off its Instant Delivery food service in NYC

A month after Uber launched its food delivery app in New York City, the company has killed off the ‘instant’ option that brought customers their orders in as little as 10 minutes.

UberEats launched in 2014 and got a standalone app last December. The company said that it’s turning off Instant Delivery only in New York; other areas won’t be affected. People in the city can still use the app to order food from more than 100 restaurants that Uber partners with there.

In the nick of time, Postmates is here to save the day with its Pop 15-minute delivery service that launches on April 20 in New York.

Similar to UberEats’ instant service and available in San Francisco since September, Pop will let you choose from a curated list of lunch items and have them delivered anywhere between 34th street and the Bowery, with no additional charge for the 15-minute service.

While the food delivery game is indeed heating up across the globe, it’ll be interesting to see if Postmates can sustain its quick service across the three cities it covers – and expand throughout the country – over time, where heavy hitters like Uber have found it difficult to do so.
