TomTom is taking its a big step toward better integrating its GPS devices into the smartphone world today, with a new service that lets you beam your route or destination to your car’s GPS.

The feature, TomTom MyDrive, is a website and mobile app combo that allows GPS owners to use their smartphone or PC to plan a trip and send it to any TomTom GO device directly.

Once you get in the car, you’ll be ready to go on a trip. Users can also add home or work locations as well as save favorite places from any device which will be synchronized to the TomTom as well.

The company is also touting MyDrive as extendable and has opened it up to third party developers to build applications that make the most of its API.

TomTom MyDrive is a free service that works with specific newer devices and will require a software update to function.

Unfortunately, while the web interface is launching today, the mobile app won’t be available until sometime in May.
