Barclays’ Pingit app will let you send payments via Twitter

Barclays has announced that UK users of its Pingit payment app on iOS and Android will be able to send payments using Twitter handles.

Pingit, which launched in 2012, currently allows you to send and receive payments using mobile phone numbers, without needing to exchange bank account details. From March 10, it’ll also let users to link their Twitter usernames to the service.

The app is open to people who don’t bank with Barclays, as well as it customers. The company says over £1 billion has been sent through the service.

To sign up, you’ll just need to add your Twitter handle to your Pingit profile under app settings. Both the payee and the recipient have to be signed up to Twitter and Pingit to transfer money.
