If you are a fan of singing competition The X Factor in the US, you will soon be able to vote for your favorite acts directly through the Shazam app.
The company announced today that in a first for the television industry, fans of The X Factor can vote via Shazam starting November 6. They can also purchase songs performed on the show, including those from recording artists featured during the broadcast.
There is a slight caveat, since voting via Shazam currently is only limited to fans who have a registered Facebook account in the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Shazam’s collaboration with a mainstream broadcaster marks the company’s strategy to secure its position in the TV space. In July, it landed $40 million from América Móvil to further its TV service, which helps broadcast advertisers connect with smartphone-owning viewers on mobile.
