Perch lets you create an always-on telepresence portal between two iOS devices

Perch has rebooted its iOS app with a new focus on linking up two remote offices through an always-on video conference.

The vision behind the app is that it would run on a dedicated iPad or iPhone hung on a wall or a stand in an office. Workers then create a “portal” from within Perch and then link it to another portal somewhere else, creating a looking glass effect.

The whole setup feels a lot like keeping a FaceTime call going while collaborating remotely, though Perch does include a few extra features. One key difference is that Perch includes a face detection algorithm that mutes the audio when you’re not looking at the portal. Connections can also be set up to automatically pick back up after disruptions.
