Google updates My Tracks app for Android with revamped stats view and more precise location tracking

Google’s relatively unknown My Tracks app for Android has been updated with improved location monitoring, both in terms of its accuracy and the amount of charge it drains from the user’s device.

The app is exclusive to Google’s mobile operating system and helps user to record every walk, run and bicycle ride that they enjoy in the great outdoors. Today’s update, spotted by Android Police, offers a more detailed view of the terrain, courtesy of three-dimensional Google Maps data, as well as the ability to merge tracks and review them in Google Earth.

Fitness fanatics will be most interested in the new stats section however, which features more detailed information about the total time, average speed and distance travelled by the user. Unlike many of its competitors, My Tracks also reveals the gradient and elevation of the user – a neat touch for those looking to scale a mountain or two.
