Remember Hallmark acquired SpiritClips, an online video service that specializes in family-friendly content, way back in April last year? Neither did we, but it seems that they did, and the result of this acquisition has been the launch of a Hallmark-branded online movie service.
While Hallmark has already introduced SpiritClips to Android, and recently updated its iOS app, the service is now available on the Web too, as well as through Roku, Boxee, Google TV, Samsung TV, and more.
As you’d expect, it’s just like Netflix, with a subscription-based model serving up access to a slew of top movies – except it only offers titles deemed suitable for families.
That said, there are R-rated (or ’15′ in the UK) movies in there, but they’re specially-edited TV versions, to ensure any boobs or ‘f-words’ are consigned to the scrapheap.
With deals in place from the likes of Miramax and Sony Pictures, there’s a pretty decent selection of movies, original shorts, documentaries and more. For those looking for a service specifically geared towards their young ‘uns, well, you could do worse than check it out.
Granted, the likes of Netflix offer child-friendly categories already, but if you’re not bothered about anything other than titles the whole family can watch, then SpiritClips actually works out cheaper too.
While you can trial the service for 1-week for free, the usual subscription fee costs $4.99 per month or $35.99 for a year, which works out at less than $3 a month. Not bad.
