Popular to-do list app Wunderlist gets a raft of powerful new features – and you’ll barely notice them

Popular to-do list app Wunderlist gets a raft of powerful new features – and you’ll barely notice them

Ever since Berlin’s 6Wunderkinder decided to abandon its ambitious Wunderkit productivity suite and focus instead on its already popular Wunderlist task management app, work has been under way on a completely redesigned version. Today, it launches to the world.

The new version of Wunderlist was announced to its 3 million registered users two weeks ago, although details were scant. So, what have the 6wunderkinder crew cooked up? The service has been completely rebuilt and redesigned, complete with new, natively-developed apps on iPhone, Mac, Android, Windows and the Web. If you run it on multiple platforms, you’ll find that tasks are silently and seamlessly synced between them.

New features include task reminders and the ability to add recurring tasks and subtasks. Smart lists offer optional shortcuts to help you find tasks according to a number of criteria such as whether you’ve ‘starred’ it, if it’s due today or if it’s been completed.

For times when collaboration is important, you can now share lists with contacts from your device’s address book and Facebook, while a new in-app Activity Center will keep you abreast of who has done what.

A list of new features is all well and good, but what is it like in practice? Well, it turns out that the simplicity that Wunderlist has always been known for remains intact and the new features fit in perfectly naturally. In fact, you’ll barely notice they’re there. The interface changes are subtle but hardcore to-do list fiends will really appreciate them.

This may be a big upgrade, but the 6Wunderkinder team have worked hard to increase functionality while making it seem like nothing’s really changed at all.

Wunderlist 2 is free and available now on iPhone, Mac, Android, Windows and the Web.
