Digital music service Rdio has given users an extra bit of freedom by adding the option of custom artwork to playlists.

Users can click on the pencil icon in the bottom-right hand corner of the existing artwork, defaulted to show the record sleeves in each playlist, and upload any image on their hard drive. It’s a nice touch, especially if you want it to share with a group of friends after a particular trip, house party or music festival.

rdio Rdio hack day project lives on to let you add custom artwork to your playlists

The Rdio blog says the addition was originally created by Rdio engineer Justin Tulloss at a Hack Day held last April. It also recommends uploading images in at least 72 DPI for best results.

It’s great to see staff at the music streaming service not only experimenting with the platform, but seeing some of their new features realised in the final product sold to the public.
