Gowalla introduces “First Annual Gifts On the Go” scavenger hunt

Gowalla introduces “First Annual Gifts On the Go” scavenger hunt

Gowalla, a location-based social networking service based out of Austin, Texas, created by Alamofire, is a grand location-sharing application.  Users ‘check-in’ at Spots in their local vicinity, either through a dedicated mobile application or through the mobile website.

After recently hitting the 2 million spots created mark in 171 countries, today Gowalla has announced the launch of their “First Annual Gifts On the Go.”

In a just released blog post, Gowalla’s new initiative is, in essence:

“a holiday gift guide featuring a few of our favorite things all wrapped up and masquerading as an Advent Calendar. With the help of some of our friends, we’ve assembled a list of 25 items or experiences that will bring a smile to the face of any person on the go.”

Continuing:

“Here’s how it works: Each day — starting today, December 1 — at 10am Central, we’re hiding a certain number of specific gifts at places around the world. For instance, today we’re giving away 20 iPod Shuffles. Tomorrow it’s 100 Album Downloads from Hip Digital. On December 20 its a handful of free flight vouchers from Southwest Airlines. Basically, it’s pretty awesome stuff.”

To win, follow the contest’s instructions, check-in each day at certain places or by Tweeting Gowalla’s announcements as they’re posted.

Want to know more?  Visit Gowalla’s exquisitely designed (as all things Gowalla are) First Annual Gifts On the Go Guide to see what you could win (today’s prize is 30 iPod shuffles), with new prizes each day, culminating on December 25 with a super, as-yet unnamed prize.

Are you a Gowalla user?  Don’t have the apps?  Get the one for your device here.

Will today’s announcement be enough to entice you to use the service more?
