Yes, I absolutely meant to end that with an exclamation point. From day one that I downloaded Skype on my Droid, I have been frustrated by the fact that it would only work over 3G and not over WiFi. Finally, the cries of many have been answered.
According to Android Central, and verified by my download from the Android Market, the newest version of Skype for Android allows for simultaneous WiFi and 3G connections. No more disabling your WiFi just to run Skype!
The caveat, of course, is that it’s still only for Verizon users (for now). But if you’re paying your monthly dues to the big red V, you should head to the Android Market and get to updating.
Update: Interestingly, as one commenter points out, Skype will not work over WiFi. It still requires that you have your 3G connection enabled. In my haste and excitement, I read the introduction screen wrong and assumed that it would work over WiFi. However, it is also worthy to note that I am not the only one who made that assumption, and the introduction screen text has now been changed in the Android Market .

actually you would be mistaken it does not work over wifi if you actually test it out before posting a blog you would have known. i figured this out last night when the update was released. it just allows you to keep wifi on but still requires 3g service to work and if you lose your data connection wether it be for lost signal or put in airplane mode it gives you that turn off wifi prompt.
and another thing skype is not only for verizon users. http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-mobile/other-supported-devices/
and on top of that verizon only allows you to make free skype to skype calls through it you still get a skype number not your verizon number. and if your making a domestic call skype doesnt even handle it verizon does and it gets used as part of your minutes.
You’re dead right about the 3G thing. Please see my update in the post.
However, my headline says Skype for Android. When referring to Android, Skype is still only available for Verizon users.
As for the rest, caveat emptor.
ah got yeah. lol i so didnt see that no it doesnt. well atleast you updateded it. lol it was like the 4th time i had seen some one post on a blog that it worked via wifi now lol. sorry about the rant was just getting frustrated.

hat if youre not in the States and have an HTCDesire… theres a replacement for Skype – anyone knows a service that provides same benefits as Skype (similar – generric per say) ??
