Apple confirms it acquired book data startup BookLamp earlier this year

Apple has confirmed that it acquired BookLamp, a startup that, among other things, developed book recommendation technology known as the ‘Book Genome Project’.

As first reported by TechCrunch, the deal appears to have taken place earlier this year when BookLamp announced that it was shutting down to ‘evolve its mission.’ The Book Genome Project analysed deep data about the subject matter of books in order to recommend related titles. It’s easy to see how Apple could use this technology for its own iBooks offering and perhaps beyond.
