Beyoncé’s iTunes-exclusive album sets store record with over 800,000 units sold in three days

Beyoncé dropped a bombshell of a surprise last week in the form of a self-titled visual album exclusive to iTunes Store. The first three days of sales reached a record 828,773 units, Apple announced on Monday. The release also set a record for first week album sales in the US and hit the top spot in 104 countries.

Beyoncé’s achievements are particularly noteworthy because she released the album as digital-only and without a pre-launch marketing blitz. Interestingly, Beyoncé’s husband Jay Z partnered with Apple rival Samsung to release his Magna Carta album earlier this year.
