Google updates its iPhone app gets improved UI, search in your own accent, language and more.

Picture 1Google has issued an update to its iPhone app, the one that very few people actually use. Thankfully, they’ve added a couple of significant features to ensure more people do. Lets take you through them.

Firstly, Google has redesigned the search results display to show more results on one page, a good move considering how long new page results take to appear. More significantly however, web pages you click on will now open within the app itself, so no more needing to visit Safari and come back.

The second feature which should grab the attention of you international readers out there is being able to use the app’s voice to search functionality in your own accent or language. With a british accent like mine, I’m constantly having trouble communicating exactly what I want the application to search for, so good news for moi and all the other Brits and Ozzies out there. In terms or languages, Google has added support for both Mandarin and Japanese, lets hope more are to come shortly.

Finally, and this is hardly likely to get you too excited, but nice to have all the same, Google has added a few UI tweaks and visual surprises to make searching by voice a little more entertaining. I’ll let you discover those for yourself.

If you haven’t got the app already, download it for free here.
