LinkedIn status updates get a two-way sync with Twitter

By Mike Bracco on November 10, 2009

LinkedIn Partners with TwitterThe professional networking site LinkedIn just announced on their blog that over the next couple of days users of their service will be able to send their status updates from LinkedIn to Twitter, and vice versa.

This is a big win/win for both companies. For LinkedIn, it will perhaps revive their status update feature which in my experience was rarely used. More importantly, it is likely to drive traffic and new users to the site. For Twitter, it continues to support the business relevance of the service as both a networking and professional branding tool.

LinkedIn Co-founder Reid Hoffman and Twitter Co-founder Biz Stone discuss the integration:

How the LinkedIn – Twitter integration works:

1. To update your Twitter status from LinkedIn, simply check off the Twitter box before you share your LinkedIn status.

2. In order to update your LinkedIn status from Twitter, include the hashtag #in or #li in your tweet. In addition, LinkedIn users will have the option of sending all of their tweets into LinkedIn. If users opt for this option, the use of the #in or #li hashtag is not needed.

Keep in mind that connecting your Twitter account to your LinkedIn account must be done ahead of time using LinkedIn’s to be released Twitter settings panel. Keep an eye out for the feature roll-out in the next couple days.

I’m not sure I like this development. Part of the reason I like LinkedIn is that you only get important status updates. For this to work well and not piss people off they will need an option to unfollow updates while still staying connected with someone.

I agree with Henry here. Linkedin should be reserved for one to two updates a day. I feel this will be abused like the Selective Twitter on facebook. Hopefully we will have an option to hide status updates on LinkedIn without have to lose a connection.

    @mikedmerrill

    • Wait, I’m confused with what you’re saying Mike. How is Selective Twitter abused on Facebook? I prefer to do all of my updates via twitter. I only send through probably 1 in 15 of them to Facebook so how is that abuse? so that WOULD be what you’re looking for.

Maybe I’m not aware of how others do use it, but I find Selective Twitter to work just perfectly for my needs.

Personally, LinkedIn is for WORK and Twitter is part work and part play. I can’t see myself EVER having my twitter updates post to my LinkedIn page. Just not worth mixing the two.

I like the option of being able to selectively send tweet updates. While user adoption/learning curve exists…bringing these two communities closer together is a cool development for business and further evidence of Social Media relevance in business.

Not sure what it buys you if you can integrate with Ping.fm. It isn’t working on my LinkedIn account either.

  8. Exactly, or Hellotxt. I think it helps position Twitter better with business users. It also helps LinkedIn get in on the ’status’ game. More than that, it may be an indicator of things to come as their strateiges unfold. Time wil tell. Thanks for chiming in.

  10. Janet- Perhaps. Of course the market is sifting the chaff from the wheat. I think the bigger deal is for Twitter to be seen as a biz app.

  13. Per fortuna le linee guida del Business Center di Google Maps sono state ulteriormente aggiornate dopo la segnalazione di Blumenthals.com

In particolare sono state modificate le restrizioni legate al Business Name dell’azienda:

“The business name on Google Maps must be your full legal business name.”

che sono state riportate alla precedente versione, decisamente meno restrittiva:

“Represent your business exactly as it appears in the offline world. The name on Google Maps should match the business name, as should the address, phone number and website. “

    Hello,
I am a new visitor herePay extra attention to difficult information.
Have you ever noticed how it’s sometimes easier to remember information at the beginning or end of a chapter? Researchers have found that the position of information can play a role in recall, which is known as the serial position effect. While recalling middle information can be difficult, you can overcome this problem by spending extra time rehearsing this information or try restructuring the information so it will be easier to remember. When you come across an especially difficult concept, devote some extra time to memorizing the information.
