UNCOVERED: Spy Shots Of Upcoming Gmail Interface

By Alex Wilhelm on November 9, 2009

gmail logo1 150x150 UNCOVERED: Spy Shots Of Upcoming Gmail InterfaceEngadget has uncovered several claimed spy shots of an upcoming release of the popular web-based email client, Gmail.

The screenshots are not in English, apologies to the usual Appetite English readership. According to Engadget, an insider from Google says the goal is to “provide a consistent experience throughout all Google Apps and blur the line between the browser and the website.”

If you take a look at the left side of the screen you will notice several menus: Contact, Chat, Tools, and Invite a Friend, as best I can tell. Take a look:

What do you think? You can feel the Wave interface cues, if these are indeed real images.

WOW! Very nice, love the Wave feel.

Maybe Wave and Gmail will be linked in other ways too?

  2. Just so long as they don’t port those hideous scrollbars.

Ohh, looks nice and smooth. I hope this really is an improvement. Gmail is still my favorite, but it feels a bit clunky nowadays.

  4. I would think that if they did, we could talk them out of it.

  5. +1

This could be a good way to have users get used to the wave feeling so it’s easier to switch (or combine?)

  6. Holden Page says:

I REALLY doubt this, I mean come on, do you know how much work they would have to put into this new design to provide the same (and hopefully better) functionality that Gmail already provides?

Seems a bit silly we are even considering these to be true screenshots.

  7. J says:

Check the address bar… all google.com even in the gmail interface… hmmm

  8. It looks clean and simple. I like it. The only downside with the contacts navigation (second screenshot) will be for people with small screens. The right hand most region will get smushed on netbooks, if I am imagining this correctly.

  9. Looks very Friendfeedy. The Paul Buchheit legacy lives on!

Looks exactly like Google Wave. I guess that this is to align Google services with the same interface so that little work has to be done in Wave.
