Gmail bug – Unread emails marked as read
By Robert Mattar on November 4, 2009
A bug marking unread emails as read seems to have surfaced today within Gmail, impacting some users of the email application.
Whilst there is no official word yet from the Gmail team on the cause of the issue, it has been reported the root of the problem lies in changes made by Google to how Gmail handles IMAP emails.
News of the issue has quickly spread through the online foray where many of the first users to experience the bug were concerned about a potential security breach to the service leaving them with 0 unread emails. It is unconfirmed whether the problem has been fixed at the time of this posting.

If only.. i Still seem to have over 2000 unread emails
I am still facing this issue. Many og my emails on the daily basis appear to be read , although, I may not have read them at all. I stll wonder if my email id is being hacked or its a severe security breach. I am not in position to change the email address yet. Do we have any work around for this peoblem. Who should be contacted for the same. Any help would be greatly acknowledged. Thanks!!
Pallavi,
The issue was a once off so you should not still be experiencing any issues. I would check firstly if you have any email clients you may have previously set up with POP access to your Gmail as this could cause the problem. Otherwise the best thing is to send a support request to Gmail.
Good luck!
Thanks for your reply. Please let meknow if you could find any details pertaining to the issue. Also please help with the email id for the GMAIL Support. Thanks!!
