Just a bit of quick news. Today the Facebook design change has gone live for some users.
Not me. I guess I’m simply not worthy quite yet. However, here is a screen shot from Erictric.com:
From what I can see, the changes are pretty slight. The Facebook format that’s being phased out already has three columns. It’s just that the far left one probably wasn’t used very much. Now it has the user’s name and a field where you can update your status. That means the far left column is going to be used a lot now!
Here is a description of more changes:
For one, you’ll find that the search bar has been relocated from the right to the center of the interface. And according to Michael Arrington of TechCrunch, “Notably Facebook has removed the double link to your profile. Settings and login/logout have been combined into a single ‘account’ drop down.”
Eric at Erictric.com believes people will grumble about these changes. Maybe a handful will, but I’m not too sure it will be a huge number as, again, the changes are so slight. This time the changes seem to help the user get around Facebook a little better.

So now there’s two places to update your status on the same page, or did I misunderstand?
If so, that’s not a good change, will just confuse people and make them wonder what the difference is.
Yep. It looks like instead of two links to your own profile, you now have two links to update your status. Let it never be said Facebook isn’t consistent with redundancy..

The changes look great. The old Facebook format is pretty user friendly and since I’m on a lot more than I’ve been in the past…these slight improvements are welcomed! Thanks for the tip

UGH mines changed. i don't like it at all. its force of habit to check notifications in the lower right corner. i keep going to click on the upper left to get to my profile button which is now on the right. the pop up notifications are in the bottom left which is inconvenient and annoying because i'm so used to looking on the right!! hate hate hate
Not a fan. My bookmarks and notifications places have all changed, and it's a chore. Since I don't really update my status….why the change? :( Wished there was a way where we could switch.
I don’t like the new changes…the sample page above shows requests but my page doesn’t display them…and I can’t get a decent response from facebook to assist me with this issue. I also don’t have status updates…I hate this new format, I want the old one back.
I don't like the new look…I can't get to my apps when I've scrolled sown the page. I want to catch up on some of the latest stuff, but I also want to open a tab for one of my games and switch between them…I liked the apps and chat at the bottom because they moved with the page. If the top and/or left stuff could move with it, too, I'd be ok with it. Also there was no warning that it was changing and it was difficult to find any info about the change. Right now, I'm just annoyed. I'm sure once they work out some kinks, I'll be fine with it.
Is there a way to change this back?
I have been one of the many UNFORTUNATE members of Facebook who have been lumbered with the changes. Just go into the Help Centre on FaceBook, Click on Help Discussions then News Feeds or Wall and see how many complaints there are.
I use the quick-launch toolbar on my XP computer. There used to be a Bookmark toolbar at the bottom of a Facebook page, that's now gone which means, regardless of which application I'm in I now have to go back to my Home page to click on another bookmark. It also requires a lot more scrolling and the Logout button (a must needs when sharing a computer) has now been hidden in the Accounts menu.
This doesn't help people get around Facebook better, if anything it's made it much more difficult!
Somebody has already started a Cause page against the changes.
The whole lot is about as clear as mud!
In the information panel that pops up the first time you see the new changes, it does not explain how to logout, so it was a bit confusing to start with, until i went exploring
oh also, you have to scroll to the top of the page to view notifications, whereas in the old version, it was at the bottom right of your screen no matter where you are on the page. this is a bit of an inconvenience if i'm not fixed onto fb continuously looking for the popup notifications
FB took something that was very easy to handle and now i can't even sort by game app without seeing what all the players have posted
it seems so unnecessary. no one ever likes the changes they make. I wish they would just stop changing things and let us get used to one style.
Terrible. Less granular control over what shows up in my feed.
EVERY feed item also the same SIZE, even stupid join/friended updates, which used to be unobtrusive when they were tiny.
Went from a manageable time-waster to a MASSIVE waste of time. Deactivated my account for now.
What if the changes are not showing up? How do you get the new format?
I hate it, i was able to things before that now I can't, why can't they just stay with the old one, this one looks cheap. I REALLY HATE IT!
What if ours hasn't changed? Will it, soon enough?
I got the new format yesterday. Eh, it's ok, I guess. BUT, across the top-right (on Firefox, anyway) I have only “HOME PROFILE ACCOUNT” (FRIENDS and INBOX do not show). FB has never been fully Firefox friendly.
I HATE it…..I don't want to know who is friends with who. Why do keep changing it?? Change it back!!!
Not to mention I didn't ask for it to change and my friends' is still normal. It pisses me off!!!!!!!!
The changes are enough to be pretty irritating and not enough to make a difference. A useless thing to do. One thing that really p*sses me off though is that since “the change”, the news feed is completely out of service. Sometimes old stories show up, sometimes new stories, sometimes a mix and sometimes… nothing at all. It's become unreliable. As for the games, there's no direct access anymore. In other words: I'm one of those who are grumbling ;-)
I'm annoyed that Inbox and Friends are NOT on my header, as shown in the example here. I have to get into my profile to find my friend to send a message…far from convenient to say the least!
If changes are going to be made, at least keep the tabs accessible to prevent things from becoming more involved.
The new format is awkward and poorly thought out. It took me forever to figure out how to logout. Also, I like to switch between apps and now there is no way to do this efficiently. I really wish FB would quit messing with what was working. Much more of this and I am going to discontinue use. It has become too much of a chore.
hate it! why am i now subject to all my friends horoscopes! they aren't even the same sign as me.
