I am definitely looking to get an Android phone when its time for me to upgrade.

If there's any iPhone pressure at all, it'll be on Google to make the app available there. Google will want to do that anyway, because they're in the ad business, not the phone business. It's also quite clear now why Google recently added ads to their maps.

As for me, I want my nav maps local, not in the cloud, and I don't want my directions ad-sponsored. So, no, Google's nav app is not for me.

Oh, Arrington has been in bed with Google for quite some time. There's no announcement out of Mountain View he doesn't hump their leg over.

Sure sounds great in the United States with everything in the cloud, but in Europe it would be better to have the option to download the maps also. You don't want to get a enormous telephone bill while navigating on holiday (it is so easy to cross borders in Europe and switch from your local cellphone provider to a roaming and thus expensive solution).
Still a cool product nevertheless ;-)
