I think the reference to Digg is from the perspective that the users clicking "like" (= interactions, could also be retweets, bloglinks etc) is helping other by filtering out the most important stuff. As Martin pointed out, there's two views. "Incoming" where all posts are coming, in chronological order, and "Popular" where the filtered stuff are shown. So, basically, Twingly Channels are interactive memetrackers for any topic. Hacker News+Techmeme mixed to one.
