The Next Web

This video will turn you into a Software Pirate. Instantly.

<sarcasm> Well that’s it – I’m never going to illegally copy anything ever again. Seriously – the Software & Information Industry Association has finally made me see the error of my ways with this masterpiece of a video. </sarcasm>

I really don’t know what was going through the minds of the people behind this video. I can understand wanting to create a sequel to the classic 1992 anti-piracy video Don’t Copy That Foppy but they’ve ended up creating probably the best advertisement for internet piracy ever.

Why did they mention Doom? The kids this is aimed at were babies when it came out. As for the dancing Klingon… I despair. I’m off to download The Pirate Bay and set up my own Bit Torrent service out of spite.

In case you’ve never seen the original, here it is.

lol there obvious trying to be hip, but fails since nobody is making any hard-copies anymore.
This spot was already outdated when it wasn't even finished.
  • Most of the so called pirates of today would always buy an original if it wasn't for the studios taking all the cream for themselves and leaving the leftovers for the artists. Oligopoly and monopoly schemes are crime, and not downloading a song. If the studios don't want to adapt to the current circumstances of widespread internet accessibility and digital distribution of content on an open market basis, then they are set firm on a course to extinction, which is not a bad thing after all, and if they do adapt then it's a win-win situation, either way we, the customers, will win, the only thing to decide here is if they want to fail miserably or go with the flow.

Was this really produced by SIIA? It sure looks like a fake...
  • Wow, I think I started to have an acid flashback. That was really, really awful.

The SIIA is seriously, hilariously out of touch.
  • Wasn't that the guy from make? makezine?
Doing the voice-over at the beginning?

    Kip Kay?
