houseofmax: You must live in a parallel universe as I don't have 1 spam message in my account.

Stephan: "...I think Google is doing a disservice to the email marketing community."

Um, f#ck the marketing community. If those messages are still wanted, they will be allowed through.

I have nothing good to say for Gmail except you need it for other Google accounts like Adsense and Blogspot.

Of course, the greatest offenders don't use a valid return address nor put a live link in the unsubscribe text.

Most companies that can't get their mail through private ISPs or places like MSN and Yahoo, advice you to use Gmail - that's how poor the spam control is there.

So anything they do in making it easier to unsubscribe from these obnoxious mailers is welcome with arms.

Maybe I should pay a visit to my gmail box - last visit I had 40,000 unsolicited messages in my inbox and spam - so I walked away.

People gain access to more power everyday, Internet marketers and others who don't respect it, are hating Gmail's new feature! I love it, thanks for sharing :-)

Not all of the unsubscribe buttons work, but I agree trying it is a matter of respect and honestity.
It´s important to note that some unsubscribe services take a few days for work - you get a warning on this.

Usually I try unsubscribe button two or three times before marking it as spam.

...and then smetimes you have to wait 3 days to be removed from thge mailinglist, as if they have to ask to the cleaning lady to go trough a punched card and removed manually users from Microsoft Access...

People abuse Permission Marking without understanding what is the value of Permission....

Well done GMail.

You assume the unsubscribe button works. I am stuck on at least 3 lists I have unsubscribed from at least 4 times in the last year and they still send me things. Then there are the unsubscribe buttons that send you to dead pages, also a nice touch.
