Vodafone is considering an offer for mobile network T-Mobile UK reports the Financial Times. The offer would unquestionably shake up the UK mobile phone market, but with an estimated value of €3 billion – €4 billion, it won’t come cheap.
O2 currently has the largest share of the UK’s market, however an acquisition of the company would make Vodafone the leader in the UKwith a market share of about 40 percent.
Vodafone recently merged operations with carrier 3 in Australia and may be willing to negotiate a joint venture with T-Mobile UK, which is owned by Deutsche Telekom AG.
Neither of the two companies have commented on the story yet, and it’s uncertain whether the acquisition would be approved by industry regulators. What is certain is that an acquisition of this scale will transform the UK mobile phone market.
