What 16 Million Colors Looks Like…

I remember working on a 1bit monochrome Macintosh Plus back in 1991 and wondering what it would be to have 16 grades of grey. Now, I can have 16 million colors, in one blog post! To enjoy the full glory of 16 million colors click this image so you can see the 4096 x 4096 pixel version.

Go full screen, smoke a joint (only in Amsterdam!) and think about the scale of things for a moment. Snowflakes, the universe, butterflies, grains of sand, dinosaurs and the size of your ego. Breathe in. Breathe out. Can you feel it now?

Remember in the web to print products, it will most likely be printed on a 4 color press....so you may need to smoke 2 joints to get a similar effect..DAMN GREY SCALE
  • The only place where you can get the 16 million color image is the link in the comment above.

Every other link takes you to another page or links to a small image.
  • I changed the link on the image to point to that working url. Thanks for the tip!
  • This one does contain 16 million colors:

    http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/img_png/16million...

    Could you verify that Boris?
  • Yes, counted every single pixel and found them all! Changed the link from the article to that image. Thanks!
  • Too bad the JPEG compression took away some color depth... Probably not 16 million colors ;)
  • Damn, you are right. Recounted them and didn't find more than 15 million. Bummer. ;-)
