Last week I wrote a post on the horrible Microsoft Songsmith ad (where they used a Mac in the ad!), now an example of a big company that does understand how to market their product.
The T-Mobile Flashmob
Little words are needed, take a look for yourself.
Compared to the Songsmith ad, who do you think gets more attention?

I don’t see this happening at Amsterdam CS?
Yeah that was good.
Actually it was a Microsoft XBox 360 ad that set off allot of flashmobs. But Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom decided to pull the ad because they thought it was to violent X(

Two things:
-Everyone is just stealing Improv Everywhere’s thunder. I thought I was watching the frozen grand central station video.
-Microsofts commercial got way more attention. Just because it was terrible.
Saw that last night on TV for the first time and me and the mrs were glued to it.
great ad
In my eyes there is nothing wrong with getting your inspiration from elsewhere and mix it with your own touch. Copy paste is a different story.
Sure this makes you think of the Central Station Frozen Flashmob. That is what a Flashmob is all about, you do something with a group at the same time. No wonder they all look-a-like.
Uh, microsoft’s.
Sure, it’s bad publicity, but everyone and their uncle (and via this post, The Next Web!) is blogging about how horrible it is. At this point just about everyone in the geek community knows exactly what songsmith is and what it does. I doubt anyone is going to buy it, but that’s because its a crappy product. Marketing wise, this was an ace in the hole.
Something tells me they won’t try to repeat their success, though.
Perhaps Utrecht CS is a good alternative. Getronics did something almost identical to this (or T-Mobile is doing something almost identical as Getronics ;)).
