Definitely. I currently own a Nokia N95 with a contract until October 2009. I was tired of waiting for the iPhone and my old phone broke down so I chose the N95. I'm a happy user and in Q3 of 2009 the N97 will probably have dropped by price so a new contract with a N97 is something I will dream about for the next 11 months.

Robert Scoble has another very informative review of the new Nokia at

http://scobleizer.com/2008/12/02/nokia-n97-the-ultimate-facebook-device/

It's a long way from being available -- second quarter 2009 -- maybe I will need a new smart phone by then.

All fingers and Thumbs today. When I said 'twotter', I meant twitter.

But you knew that. ;-)

I'm in the UK, and my corporate contract (for about 20 phones) is with T-Mobile. iPhpne is only an option from one supplier - O2 - which is a big reason for many peopel not using the iPhone.

I use a Mac as my computing workhorse, but I have an Nokia E61 and an N95, and swap between the two for the very simple reason that the N95 has no qwerty keyboard, and the E61 has no camera, and a poor quality microphone. So I use the N95 for interviews and photos, and the E61 for keepign up with email and text and twotter.

The N97 seems to delivers the best of both in a really nice looking package, with a touch screen, and if it has the same high quality Carl Zeiss lens, and the extremely capable inbuilt microphone, then it's definitely going to be the next phone for me. Swapping data onto one Nokia from another is a breeze, and I'm familiar with the way it works. In addition. the build quality and software of Nokia has always been superb.

It's not an iPhone killer, but it's an extremely capable device that does all that I want - so if it's on offer when my next handset upgrade comes along - it's the one I'll choose. Plus, The N97 has replaceable batteries - which I need for long days on the road photographing and interviewing. That's actually the iPhone killer for me - the fact it only has a built-in battery.

you know I am tempted in swapping my htc tytn 2 for this. My only issue is they are using the s60 touch stuff which still needs a bit of work. I would like nokia to hire some talented UI designers and take it to the next level for all s60 based phones.

The other plus point for this phone over the iphone which hasn't been mentioned much and that is you will be able to do what the hell you want with it unlike the iphone. You will be able to share your data plan with your phone out of the box etc etc.

You have to wonder what they have planned for thier next E series update now as the e71 is the best phone I have seen from nokia.
