As a designer, I've gotta say too, that I don't really like the Web a all. I prefer print or video because at least with those things, it's WYSIWYG. You get a consistent output/product. with the Web, a site will work on Explorer, then not on Firefox. Really, a website should be so efficient that whatever browser you use, it should work perfectly. If television sets worked the way the Web has, then a program would appear differently on an RCA compared with a Sony TV set. But of course, that's not the way it works or else there'd be chaos.

With the Web, the computer/software companies were selling us faster better machines with bloatware for the Web with ever greater hardware requirements. Things you simply didn't need. YOu had to buy a new machine, because the website which used to work on our 486, now needed a Pentium. As it turns out, with the emergence of handhelds, it's turned that model on its head. They can't run flash and all those glizty sites requiring all that processing speed and horsepower. The handhelds don't have the power to run them because their speed is at best 486. So now the technology companies have been forced to do an about face, create new software apps which are slimmer, faster, reliable and more efficient. Turns out, these silicon snakeoil salesmen from Adobe and Microsoft were just selling us garbage, buggy software, bloatware that doesn't fit the new reality. It's why I've never liked the Web and never bothered to get caught up in its hype and lies. I never believed it. Just use it to check email, surf sites, but don't let it devour you.
