iPhones aren’t the only phones that can do this. Most other phones can actually run IM programs in the background, making them a far more realistic option if you want to really cut down on your sms messages.

Just tried this, but I get the error “Unable to send IM, +316….. is unable to receive offline messages”. Anyone got this working, or is it only for US users?

That is pretty cool. I also hate the prices of any telco for voice, text and data. They are just outrageous. Of course they have to earn back the investments they have made for building the infrastructure, but 10 years ago I payed 10 cents (guilder cents, which equals 4.5 euro cents) per minute of voice, now it is 10 euro cents. Same story with SMS. it only has become more expensive in stead of cheaper.

I think the governement should interfere here and give everybody a free dataplan on their mobile :)
