Tipit.to checks if somebody claiming a domain tipjar also controls the domain itself. One of the ways we check control is by asking the webmaster to add a file to their webserver root (we have a couple of other ways too).

I don’t think it’s likely that random people from China have easy access to the Techcrunch webroot.

I wonder how these services avoid the possibility of frauds?

For example, how can these servuces stop someone from China to come and claim the tips for Techchrunch.com ?

yes, tipjar.com relaunch did not happen in 2007, but
it will soon.

We just decided to remove adsense from our site and I like the idea behind these Tip Jars, so I’ll give tipit.to a chance at our website for a while.

I do believe in this concept, advertising does not always work.
